I recently joined the Parent Lab as a Research Laboratory Tech Assoc. My current project is to use stem cell models to investigate the disease mechanism of PCDH19 related epilepsy (PCE) and to develop antisense oligonucleotide therapy of PCE-related brain abnormalities.
I have completed my Ph.D. in Microbiology from University of Pune, India in 2011 under the guidance of Dr.P.K.Dhakephalkar. I have done significant work on the project titled ‘The Curing of Multidrug Resistance of Bacteria by Using Plant Derived Compounds’. During my studies, I gained experience with advanced molecular biological and microbial techniques. My doctoral research study was also focused on the curing of plasmid mediated antibiotic resistance by using plant derived compounds. I studied reversal of vancomycin resistance from the vancomycin resistant staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) strains, Along with the other clinical pathogenic strains. Interestingly, it was the first reported VRSA strain from India at that time. I developed a Real Time PCR assay for the detection of elimination of plasmid mediated antibiotic resistance from clinical isolates. For additional studies , I worked on Immuno-quantitative PCR assay for the detection of hepatitis infection in blood samples. I learned tissue culturing techniques as well as biochemical methods. Based on this work, I have four publications in reputed Journals, one Indian patent and one International patent.
In 2013-14, I worked as a Research Volunteer, on the project "Determination of antimicrobial susceptibility of plant-derived Heena derivatives against multi drug resistant clinical bacterial strains especially against MRSA and VISA strains" At Detroit Medical Center (DMC) With Dr. Sarkar and Dr. Salimnina.
Apart from academics, I enjoy dancing, listening to music, painting, hiking in the woods, spending time with family and friends, and a variety of other activites that make me happy.
